K9 Training Academy Ltd offers dog training to owners of adult pet and working dogs, applying a methodology appropriate to the clients wishes. All our dog training is reward-based and encompasses both classical and operant conditioning.  We welcome dogs of all ages and abilities from Didcot, Abingdon, Wantage, Oxford, Wallingford and beyond.

As professional, full time dog trainers and behaviourists, we can offer training during the day or evening, and we offer dog training on both a one-to-one basis and within training groups.  All our dog trainers and behaviourists are suitably qualified and experienced. Please contact us if you require trainer biographies.

Our indoor and outdoor dog training facilities include secure, fully enclosed dog training areas, which are also available for rent to individuals and groups who wish to practice their training on their own, walk or play with their dogs in a secure area.  Come and train your dog within a context that is more appropriate to outdoor behaviour than a village hall or similar.

Our dog training services are extensive and include (but are not limited to) the following:

Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Training Scheme

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is a well-established dog training programme that is open to all dogs, whether Kennel Club registered or not, to provide a quality standard of training for dogs and owners and we offer full training for the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards under the scheme.

The training incorporates many domestic obedience exercises, with certificates of achievement awarded to owners and their dogs who have successfully passed the scheme's tests. Dog owners of any fitness level or disability can take part.

Full details can be found on the Kennel Club web site at the links below:

Obedience Dog Training

Whether you are looking for basic obedience training, to improve or add to existing obedience training or are looking to compete in obedience competitions with your dog, we can cater for all your obedience training needs.

Man Tracking and Trailing Dog Training

Tracking (following a scent trail, with the nose to the ground, made by a particular individual on a soft surface) and trailing (following the scent of a particular individual, whether it be on the ground or in the air) are activities that all dogs enjoy as they are both mentally and physically stimulating.

Training a dog for man tracking and trailing is not just for those interested in training a dog for law enforcement or search and rescue uses, but also for dog owners interested in participating in tracking dog events and working trials.

We offer both man tracking and trailing dog training with an instructor with considerable experience in law enforcement dog training.

We run a pet dog tracking group on Sundays between 9.00am -12.30 pm - View Details

Scent Detection Dog Training

A scent detection dog or sniffer dog is trained to use its sense of smell to detect hidden items. Scent detection dogs are most notably used by police forces or security personnel to detect illegal substances and contraband, blood or human remains but dogs can also be trained to detect things such as cancer, wildlife faeces, bed bugs and much more.

We offer scent detection dog training with an instructor with extensive experience training scent dogs within law enforcement, both domestically and internationally.

We run a pet dog scent detection group on Saturdays between 9.00am -12.30 pm - View Details

Agility Dog Training

Dog agility is a popular sport that can be enjoyed by all dog breeds and owners of all ages, in which the owner directs the dog through an obstacle course in a race against the clock while also ensuring accuracy. The obstacles include jumps, tunnels, weave poles, pause tables, A-frames, seesaws and others.

We offer agility training for all levels of dogs and owners from complete novices to advanced.  With our indoor and outdoor training areas, we can offer agility training all year round, whatever the weather.

Dogs With Perceived Behavioural Issues

Many perceived behavioural issues can be resolved by re-focusing the dogs senses away from bad behaviour through an appropriate and correct training regime.

We have qualified dog behaviourists who can carry out behaviour assessments and provide a detailed report of issues to the owner, then discuss in full to devise a suitable training plan.

Please contact us to discuss any perceived issues you may have.

Assistance/Support Dogs

We are experienced in training assistance/support dogs for several roles including dogs deployed within schools and care homes.

Please contact us to discuss your needs or ideas.

Workshops

We regularly hold workshops aimed at specific training topics ie recall, lead walking, etc.

These workshops concentrate on specific needs and are inclusive of many different methods to achieve specific goals.
